Zurprize went on a camping trip to the desert with Dondi, our
24 year old QH mare,

Unfortunately the photos of
Zurprize laying by the campfire didn't turn out; all you could see was the fire, but
he loved laying by the fire shooting the breeze with us - and boy, was there a breeze! The
wind kicked up so much that anything that wasn't tied down was lost to the desert! In the second
photo, that's not Dondi swatting flies with her tail; its the wind.
Zurprize is now starting his cow training at just 8 months old. He watches the other horses zort, I mean sort every Tuesday night, then he takes his turn on the lead. He will soon graduate to being ponied! We sort at night, so the photos are a little 'green' with night vision.
And a job well done as the last steer is pushed through the gate!! 2 minutes 23 seconds! Of course, with me on the ground...I slowed us down...what can I say...but Zurprize is getting the picture and sometimes gets ahead of me once he has his cow on the run!
Below is our boy at about 3 months old with a 6 foot gopher snake - real as can be - on his back - we were walking down the driveway and this beautiful gopher snake started across right in front of us...so of course, a better training op was never had...gopher snakes are non poisonous, and help keep the rattlers at bay.
All of our babies are trained to respect, halter, lead, lunge, hot walker, load, trailer and have their feet trimmed before you get them! They will understand the verbal cues, "Whoa, Come To, Away, and Back". They will have been saddled (light mini saddle) and harnessed, and will have seen and been led along with a cart.They will each have been to at least 3 major events to desensitize them to traffic, crowds, noises, lights, and many other facets of human gaity! They will be well socialized with donkeys, horses, miniature horses, and miniature donkeys. Each baby will have a special behavior taught such as rolling a ball, laying down on cue, walking a bridge, etc.
