SPOTS ‘N STRIPES RANCH

PHOTO ALBUM – PAGE 12

...with Tim Flach Behind The Lens.

We are thrilled that Tim Flach, world renowned photographer, called us and asked if he could come to our ranch in 2006 and spend two weeks photographing our equines for his upcoming art gallery equine book of photographs, to be published in 2008, after Tim completes his journey around the world photographing the world's best and rarest equines, in his special way. Here is a small sampling of his amazing work. Tim will make some prints available to us after the book is published.

Our beautiful Grant's gelding, Zurprize. Tim brought in a barnful of equipment from England, including cases of lights, cameras, computers, etcetera. We set up a 'studio' with yards and yards of black velvet in one of our stalls, where many portraits, specialty photos, and art gallery photos were taken over the next two weeks. Tim's steady hand, professional and incredibly artistic eye, along with his vision of what he wanted to create, and his fantastic camera equipment together created these awe-inspiring photos.

Our weanling zorse filly, Zantazia, in all her splendor, made so brilliantly alive by the hand and eye of
Tim Flach.

Majestic and awesome, Zane, our Grevy's zonkey...what more can we say?

This was a most exciting shoot. The first time we went out to the desert with Zurprize and a younger zebra colt, the mega gusts of wind whipped through everything. Nothing would stay up or attached or in place, except for stoic Zurprize and his younger companion, who turned their butts against the wind and wondered what the fuss was all about as we shouted as loudly as we could just to try to hear one another, while often failing miserably to do so. We had to abort that shoot early, but went out again several days later to much calmer weather. Once again Zurprize was his wonderful self, and took direction like a pro so that Tiim could get some incredible shots, like this one, while the sun, as it began to say goodnight for the evening, cast fabulous shadows upon the stark, dry desert earth.

Thank you so much, Tim, and your most capable staff, who were not afraid to dig in when needed, clean up manure, help water and feed, and who caught up 'strays' when a couple of halterless equines wondered off, for creating these fabulous memories for us.
