SPOTS 'N STRIPES RANCH
Training Clinic Zebras - Zorses - Zonkeys - Horses - Donkeys - Mules
We are pleased to announce that we will have another three day training clinic on October 4, 5, 6, 200, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Our post clinic responses to the previous years' clinics have been fantastic. Attendees are now well on their way to understanding and training their 'stripeys', their horses, or long ears, as well as now being able to repair problems they have had for years with their equines. The successes that the attendees are now experiencing with their animals, whether zebras, horses, mules, donkeys, zonkeys or zorses are always pouring in.
We share with you a clearer understanding of the equine mind, behaviors and communication. Nancy will introduce you to equine communication skills like Rhythm training, Whoops training, A/B training, Copycatting, The Take Away Sale, and others.
We welcome everyone that has any equine that you would like to understand better, and train faster. With this training your equine will understand what you are trying to communicate to it in a way it can appreciate immediately; in a way it can totally respect you and in a way that it knows it is receiving your respect, thereby becoming your friend and you becoming its mentor. The enjoyment and uniqueness of using zebras in the training is a once in a lifetime experience, and everything you learn with the zebras can be used on every other equine - if you have learned to train a zebra - you have learned to train ANY equine.
The agenda will try to stick to as closely as possible is as follows:
Each Day - Start Time 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - Lunch 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Day 1
1. Tour of Ranch.
2. Zebras in the wild - migration, breeding behaviors, social behaviors, etc. Comparison of horse social behaviors, breeding behaviors, communication, etc.
3. Observation of zebra kinship groups (small herds) with stallion and several mares. Comparisons with domestic horses, mustangs, donkeys.
4. How to raise orphan equines properly for both physical and psychological health.
5. Establishing dominance, the correct way to do it. Maintaining friendship while still being the dominant one in the relationship. How to correctly maintain dominance throughout the maturing phases of the animals life - what happens when the hormones kick in at sexual maturity and the animals test your dominance - how to immediately and effectively deal with it.
6. Differences in obtaining a zebra or other stripey or horse and hybrids babies fully trained for the first three months and one not introduced to training until weaning, and the reasons why.
7. Learning 'target' training, and why this is one of the easiest and most effective ways to train any equine. Learn what the real purpose of and results of target training are, and how it can help you and your equine in every aspect of your animal's training and its understanding of what your are requesting of it, no matter what age your equine is. This is a 'MUST' for all trail horses and trail horse prospects, but should be a part of every equine's experience with its trainer to solidy the friendship and to have it realize, perhaps for the first time in its life, that training is a 'fun' experience, not 'work' - so we can all stop saying "I have to go WORK my horse." Let's turn that into "I'm going to PLAY with my horse!"
Day 2
1. Continuation of Target Training...working with babies and mature animals...the differences. How to imprint properly, (find out what imprinting REALLY means) teach cues for Whoa, Back, Come To, Away, obstacles, trailering, clipping, trimming, bathing, grooming, tying, bucket feeding, standing for halter. Why and how the horse, donkey, zonkey, mule, zorse and zebra fully understands this most NATURAL communication. Teaching with 'play' as opposed to 'work'.
2. Working with yearlings. How to sensitize and desentsitize (any age equine) - what is the difference - what should you sensitize to and what should you desensitize to? Teaching the 'lay down'.
3. Working with older equines.
4. How to overcome dominance challenges from your maturing equine.
5. Working with wild zebras, wild mustangs, hard to handle horses. How to pick up the feet and trim. How to stop biting. How to stop kicking. How to intruduce human contact so that you are respected as leader. How to develop trust. How to be safe for both the animal and the human. How to teach the zebra, horse, mule, donkey, zonkey or zorse to lead/follow you as leader.
In all the above, actual zebras and untrained horses will be used as much as possible to enable the attendees to view it and learn 'as it happens'. If you would like to bring your own zebra, horse, zonkey, zorse, donkey or mule please inquire.
This evening we will have a bar-b-que dinner for all attendees, so we can all get to know one another better and have an enjoyable evening.
Day 3
Hands on for those who are qualified and who wish to work with zebras or horses, minis, donkeys, mules, zorse or zonkeys.
How to introduce the saddle and bridle
The all important steps before you 'get on'...
...Including despooking, friendship and training...what ground training is a MUST prior to mounting your equine. How to virtually 'eliminate' the chance of a 'rodeo' from your very first mount.
How to introduce the harness and cart
The steps in driving
How to become 'one' with your equine
This day will be dedicated to furthering training to enable the trainers to see all behaviors related to training of the animals and what to do about obstacles the zebras or problem horses, donkeys, mules, zorses or zonkeys put in front of us in training, how to communicate with them, and to understand the different temperament types and how to 'score' an animal's trainability factor.
All persons wishing hands on work with zebras or any other equines, including your own, must sign injury waiver. The Ranch is not responsible for any injuries received while on the Ranch or working with zebras, whether the Ranch has determined that the party is qualified to work with the aninals or not. All attendees, by attending, agree to this waiver. No one will be required to work with any animals by the Ranch; working with the animals will be on a requested by attendee basis. Any injury received on the ranch, weather or not directly related to equines is acknowledged as being a part of this liability waiver.
We will be working with zebras in various stages of training, from no training to well trained, so you will have the opportunity to see what to do with any equine, at whatever stage of training or non-training it is at.
All are welcome to attend, whether you own an equine or not, or are just contemplating getting an equine, including zebra, zorse, horse, zonkey, donkey, or mule, or are simply fascinated by them, and want to know more. This training is for the most experienced trainers to the least experienced, as you will learn behavioral techniques that WILL work with every equine, no matter what stage of training you or the equine are at.
